Ok so setting the boiler cold pressure to 12 psi would be a normal setting and is the factory defect pressure when you install a water feeder valve used on. While your feed valve is set to 12 psi that's just the minimum water pressure it will maintain in the system.
Boiler Pressure More Than 20 Psi — Heating Help: The Wall
Ok, i misread your initial post and assumed this was a steam boiler.

Is psi 20 ok for boiler. A quick look at the pressure gauge is enough to check your boiler’s pressure. Try hanging a pail under the valve and open it completely. 18' x 0.4329 = 7.7922 minimum psi required cold temp.
There must be a means for air to enter the tank. 0 seconds of 1 minute, 33 secondsvolume 0%. The boiler pressure will rise when it heats water in the system and drop slightly as it cools.
Shell boilers are often operated. Check your boiler pressure once a month. When hot, boiler pressure goes to 21 psi.
Pressure of not less than the safety valve setting of the boiler but never less than 100 psi. The one from my older rotted out 12 year old burnham! The unit has been off about 20 hours and psi at the boiler shows 15.
There will be a data tag on the boiler (usually with the manufacturer’s name and model) and this will list the boiler’s mawp. You should hear water running, and see the boiler pressure gauge going up. And canadian hot water boilers is 12 pounds per square inch (psi).
The green zone in the worcester greenstar boiler pressure gauge in the picture. Boiler water pressure is 12 psi cold and expansion tank is 12 psi. Once the steam leaves the boiler and gets to the header, it splits into 2 supply mains, one for the front of the house, one for the back.
My system is running at 15 psi regularly and sometimes as high as 20. Ok, great, now i have a. One bar is 14.5 psi (pounds per square inch).
When the gauge on the pipe hits 30 psi, water starts getting released by the prv, which is rated 30 psi, so that seems to confirm the psi reading from the pipe gauge. For example, if a boiler is in the basement, and its a 2 story house with baseboard radiation on the second floor, it could be 8' + 9' + 1' = 18' (boiler to upper baseboard). It should be ok for the pressure to go a little above it, but not above 2.5 bar.
Pressure changes of a few psi one way or the other can be brought about by atmospheric conditions. If air is entering you should hear a glug sound as air enters an then a small rush of water will follow. Each kilogram of steam would then have received 2 257 kj of heat from the boiler.
It should have only enough pressure to raise the water a few feet above the top of the highest point in the piping system. Each supply main has a main vent at the very end. Normal boiler pressure should be around 12 psi.
If the tag is illegible or missing, there will also be a stamped marking on the actual pressure vessel itself with its unique identifier and mawp. If the boiler pressure drops below 12 psi, the valve will allow new water into the unit to bring up the pressure reading. When the boiler is cold, the pressure is set at 12 psi.
The gauge on the boiler reached 38 psi and 185 degrees. That’s optimal at normal temperatures. Your boiler must be at the correct pressure for the hot water to circulate properly between the radiators, especially if they are on different floors.generally, the ideal pressure is between 1 and 2 bars, but this may vary from boiler to boiler.ask your heating engineer.
The exact pressure of your combination and system boiler can be measured on the boiler pressure gauge, which is generally visible on the front of the control panel. 1 psi / 2.31 = 0.4329. Here is a graphic showing the pressure reducer valve with a pressure gauge.
The standard cold water operating pressure of most u.s. The expansion tank was sized properly for a boiler of about 100k btu/hr and cast iron radiators. Both gray boxes are honeywell and seem to be identical.
When the boiler heated up tonight, the gauge on the pipe got up to 31 psi and 210 degrees. (the boiler had just cut off on a heating cycle.). Pressure will change when the unit fires up the heat.
The ‘from and at’ rating is widely used as a datum by shell boiler manufacturers to give a boiler a rating which shows the amount of steam in kg/h which the boiler can create ‘from and at 100°c’,at atmospheric pressure. If you just connect a hose, open the drain valve and let the pressurized water run out, the tank will not drain completely. There are some boiler systems that are slightly higher.
Check your boiler manual to find the recommended level for your model. If your boiler pressure is too high, let your system cool and recheck the pressure. Turn both valves so that the levers are aligned with the direction of the braided hose.
Let's just say that as long as the pressure relief valve doesn't open when the boiler is hot, 20 psi cold is ok. While not every boiler has the same pressure requirements, most central heating systems perform within the range of 1 to 2 bar, which is between 14 and 29 pounds per square inch (psi). 20 psi is normal operating pressure.
If the mawp is 15 psi or below, it’s low pressure. The pipes are very noisey, sounds like water boiling. At about 1.2 bar, shut off both valves.
In most cases, it should rise to about 20 psi while its heating element operates. So we might see 15 psi for a 20 story building steam system. The boiler is 23 years old, but other than the pipe noise, works well.
All radiators in the house (2 stories above basement. Always use a registered engineer for any boiler repairs. The relief valve shouldn't pop until pressure gets to 30 psi (steam boilers are 15 psi).
Here are the current pics. So heres some info on my system: The normal level of pressure that a boiler operates at is between 1 and 2 bars.
The pressure should be set to what is required in total height of system. To determine the proper pressure for the boiler system requires filling the system and determine the isolated static pressure. Provided the pressure stays up, and there are no obvious signs of leaking water, it’s safe to power the boiler back up.
